The fashion and textile industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental degradation, generating over 92 million tonnes of textile waste annually. That is enough for an individual to fill a truck of waste every second. And yet, only a small fraction of this is recycled. Much of the industry has focused on post-consumer waste, while pre-consumer waste has often been ignored.

This waste doesn’t just disappear. It piles up in landfills, pollutes water sources, and contributes to carbon emissions. JB rPET recognised this gap and saw it as an opportunity to create lasting, meaningful change. We are proud to launch our Textile-to-Textile (T2T) chemical recycling technology to rewrite the story of industrial textile waste, one fibre at a time.

A Shift from B2B to Circular Textile Economy

Until now, our work has primarily been in the B2B (bottle-to-bottle) space, providing recycled material from post-consumer waste bottles. But with T2T recycling, we’re making a pivotal shift toward true circularity, where textile waste becomes the raw material for future textiles.

When the trend towards fashionable blended fabrics and synthetic fibres increases, traditional mechanical recycling falls short. With chemical recycling of textiles, we disintegrate complicated textile waste at the molecular level and reassemble it into high-grade raw materials. Chemical recycling not only retains fibre quality but also allows a truly circular cycle, whereby even the most “unrecyclable” garments can be rebuilt into new clothing. It is the key to addressing fashion’s increasing waste issue.

This isn’t just a change in material. It’s a change in mindset. We’re moving from a system of linear consumption to one that respects resources, reduces waste, and revives value. T2T isn’t just a technology, it’s a commitment to a regenerative future.

A Mission Rooted in Responsibility

At JB rPET, we believe that every scrap has potential. Our mission is simple: to prevent industrial textile waste from ending up in landfills by transforming it back into high-quality, textile-grade material.

As we venture into T2T recycling, we aren’t just introducing a new product; we’re laying the foundation for a truly circular textile economy. It’s not about doing something new; it’s about doing what’s right.

Breaking Down Our T2T Process: From Waste to Wearable

So, how does textile waste become textile-grade material again? Our process is both scientific and sustainable:

1. Collection – We begin by collecting pre-consumer textile waste from spinning and weaving units. These are unused, clean scraps that would otherwise go to waste.

2. Pre-Treatment – Next, we carefully remove impurities like oil, grease, and metal particles to prepare the material for recycling.

3. Densification – The cleaned textile waste is compressed, making it easier and more efficient to handle and process.

4. Fractions – The material is then broken down into usable components or “fractions,” setting the stage for the next transformation.

5. rPET Chips – Finally, these fractions are converted into recycled PET chips, textile-grade, high-quality material ready to be used in new garments and products.

The Need of the Hour

With global warming accelerating and resources becoming scarce, the world is turning up the heat on businesses to reform. Brands, manufacturers, and consumers are seeking alternatives to be sustainable. Fashion brands have for years been fighting to balance creativity with accountability. JB rPET’s Textile-to-Textile (T2T) chemical recycling is the first step towards that. By transforming clean pre-consumer textile waste into textile-grade rPET chips, we allow brands to decrease their reliance on virgin polyester and adopt circular design principles. T2T empowers designers to have the ability to select materials that don’t just work well but also demonstrate an environmental commitment. It introduces the possibility of traceable, closed-loop sourcing, whereby what is thrown away can be brought back to life, repeatedly.

Our industrial textile waste management process reduces waste and conserves valuable resources. While consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the environment, textile-to-textile chemical recycling is a significant solution for brands to minimize their environmental impact without compromising on the pursuit of a sustainable and responsible fashion business.

Today, textile-to-textile recycling is not a luxury, but an absolute necessity. Our polyester textile recycling technology offers a solution that is not just feasible but scalable.

A Circular Future, Made in India

JB rPET

It’s not only about innovation, it’s about effect. Here’s what this milestone means for the industry and the planet:

● We’re moving from a linear “make-use-dispose” model to a regenerative cycle where every scrap is a resource, not waste.

● By breaking textile waste down at a molecular level, we retain fibre quality and overcome the limitations of traditional recycling, especially for blended or synthetic fabrics.

● JB rPET collects and processes pre-consumer industrial scraps making true circularity achievable at scale.

● T2T recycling reduces dependence on virgin polyester, reduces emissions, and allows brands to design with integrity and accountability.

As an Indian textile-to-textile recycling company, JB rPET is proud to be at the forefront of this change, not only for our sector but for the planet. This is our chapter in the story of sustainability. And we’re just getting started. Together, let’s rebuild from every thread.
